Patrick Deneny answered on 17 Mar 2022:
The Martian. As well as being a great film, it depicts a fairly realistic portrayal of how humans might attempt to colonise and survive on Mars. The book by Andy Weir, on which the film is based, is also well worth a read!

Luisa Islas answered on 17 Mar 2022:
My favorite sci-fi movie is “Contact”, which is based on the book written by Carl Sagan. My favorite part of the movie is the ending – so good! It was the first movie that showed me that you can have a career where you can travel and try to find the answer to fundamental questions.

Another difficult question! As I am very old, I can remember being amazed when Star Wars and 2001: a space odyssey were released. Since then the quality of special effects has advanced greatly, but I still like old classics like the original Blade Runner and Alien.

I love SciFi so this is a hard question – probably Blade Runner – based on the excellent book Do Androids dream of electric sheep?
I do like to turn the lights off and watch Alien though!

David Jackson answered on 18 Mar 2022:
Got to be Star Wars. It was such a change. But Silent Running is a dark horse that is worthy of a watch.

Mahoulo Ahouansou answered on 19 Mar 2022:
I like the genre, but to narrow it down I would say the South African movie District 9.

Lesley Howell answered on 20 Mar 2022:
I don’t really like sci-fi movies so don’t have a favorite. When I was younger we used to watch/read War of the Worlds a lot as it was my Nan’s favorite – I took her to see it in the cinema when the remake was released.

Hard to pick from: War of the Worlds, Minority Report, Jurassic Park and some recent space movies such as Arrival, Interstellar….that’s not just one, is it?
-
Ioanna Maria Pateli answered on 21 Mar 2022:
Star Wars (A new hope and revenge of the Sith) and Interstellar !! I love all of them!
-
Charlay Wood answered on 22 Mar 2022:
My favourite is Gattaca. It’s a movie from the 90s, but it is all about genetic engineering and changing our DNA to make us superhumans!
I also second Luisa’s favourite movie – Contact. It’s about space and searching for aliens.

Andrew Parrott answered on 22 Mar 2022:
I like lots of Sci-Fi films and most have already been mentioned. Gattaca, Alien, Blade Runner, Moon (mainly for sound track) are some of my favourites – not sure I can choose just the one.

Stephen Doughty answered on 23 Mar 2022:
I do enjoy The Martian for its scientific accuracy but I also work in computer visualisation and so Gravity is an immensely good film for it’s computer-generated rendering (i.e picture quality).

I liked The Fly when I was little (it was an 80s remake of an older black and white movie|).
