I am an Associate Lecturer in Chemistry at the University of St Andrews. I specialise in synthesis and study of crystals. This means I use different techniques to work out the structure of samples and then try to find out if they have any interesting properties.

My Typical Day:
I get up early and take my dogs for a quick walk before starting work at around 8am. My typical day includes giving lectures, some lab work then I usually finish around 4pm.

I get up early and take my dogs for a quick walk before starting work at around 8am. My typical day includes giving lectures on inorganic chemistry and supervising students doing lab work. I mark tutorials and try to get things done on time!

What I'd do with the prize money:
I’d invest the money in creating new oureach experiments to share with schools and the public in the local community.

Work History:
I worked in kitchens for years during school before working as a lab demonstrator during my PhD. Since then, I’ve worked as a researcher in chemistry before starting as an education focused associate lecturer in chemistry.
