Not one person, but my closest friends at school were all interested in science (and science fiction), so it was easy for me to move in that direction.

My chemistry teachers at high school were really enthusiastic so that helped push me in the direction of science at university.

My secondary school chemistry teacher encouraged me to study chemistry further. This and enjoying learning chemistry is what made me want to do science.

My grandma did, because she was a nurse and would take about germs and treatment. She inspired me and encouraged me. She always enrolled me in a lot of different classes like Spanish lessons, music, and dancing, but she called me her future singer-lawyer-doctor because she knew I had many interests! I originally enrolled in a nursing programme in her honour but switched to chemistry. I remember her saying it’s totally ok not to follow in her foot steps. She passed before I graduated from my bachelors, but she predicted I would be a doctor before I did, which gives me comfort! As I’m enrolled in a PhD programme now I just know she would be so pleased, more than anyone, but not entirely surprised.

My great uncle, the brother of my grandfather. We would talk about physics and he would set up experiments to do with me.
