I am 37 and a twin! I grew up in London (Greenwich and Bexley) and moved to York to study Chemistry at the University of York. I then moved to Norwich to study for my PhD at the University of East Anglia. When I had my daughter I moved back to London with my husband and I now have three children. For my job, I am a scientist who works on discovering new medicines as well as teaching chemistry to the next generation of scientists. I started my career at the University of East Anglia in 2009 where I was employed as a senior demonstrator. In January 2012 I was appointed as a Lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry. This means I am a teacher and researcher on the topic of making new medicines. I moved to Queen Mary University of London in 2017 where I still teach chemistry as well as try and design new medicines to treat diseases.

My Typical Day:
At the moment I am on maternity leave as I had a baby boy in late November, so I don’t have a typical day. When I am at work I normally wake up around 7am, have breakfast with my family and then travel on the train and tube to get to work for 10am. Depending on the day sometimes I am in the lab, sometimes I am teaching and sometimes I am doing office work. I usually have lunch with friends before finishing at 4pm to commute home and pick up my children from school and nursery.

At the moment I am on maternity leave as I had a baby boy in late November, so I don’t have a typical day. We are just getting into a routine as my son is almost 3 months old. We usually wake around 7am, I feed the baby first and then wake my other 2 children for school and nursery. I spend my day looking after my baby, watching tv, reading and doing chores! I pick my children up anytime between 5-6pm, cook dinner, play and read with them and put them to bed hopefully by 7.30!
When I am at work I normally wake up around 7am also , have breakfast with my family and if its my turn I will drop my children at nursery and school. I then travel on the train and tube to get to work for 10am. Depending on the day sometimes I am in the lab doing experiments with my students and talking with them, sometimes I am teaching and sometimes I am doing office work. I usually have lunch with friends before finishing at 4pm to commute home and pick up my children from school and nursery. I then cook dinner, play and read with my children and put them to bed hopefully by 7.30! I then usually work for a few more hours before I watch TV and head to bed!
